The Volvo Experimental Safety Car was a safety concept car developed by everyone's favorite Gothernburg-based car company. Introduced at the 1972 Geneva Auto Show, the VESC was a test bed for safety equipment we've become familiar with including crumple zones, rollover protection, ABS, backup camera and automatic seat belts. Much of what was learned on this vehicle was poured into the 200-series and other models associated with the Swedish automaker's rep as a maker of exceptionally safe, if not quite quick, automobiles. Today we featured a Volvo we thought eschewed safety until 13oostedwgn set us straight.
Volvo's latest safety breakthrough: ducking.
We're looking forward to seeing this technology on an XC70.
